Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr M. Ferguson.

Introduction to trade skills and knowledge in metal and wood work.

This course has been developed using a combination of Carpentry and Engineering unit standards approved by the Building Construction Industry Training Organisation (BCITO) and Competenz. It is designed to lead into a future trade opportunity apprenticeship as well as being a great practical project-based learning opportunity for many potential trade-based careers.

Wood - focuses on covering safety procedures, measuring equipment, machine operating procedures and the use of a variety of woodworking hand- and power tools while constructing a project.  This course will be BCITO focussed with students planning, designing and completing a level one project in wood.  Students will build skills and understanding by using different hard materials, tools and equipment.

Metal - focuses on Competenz units to develop understanding and practical skills in metal work. Students will create engineering drawings and then manufacture a metal product. They will need to demonstrate safe working practices.
