Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Ms G. Smith.
Construct products by trialling techniques and experimenting with fabric design methods. Practical course.
This is a practical course designed for students who wish to explore the creative side of textiles and will appeal to anyone who enjoys art and design. No previous experience is required but it would be helpful if students could thread and use a sewing machine.
Students will research design eras and use these to inspire their designs. They will produce sketches and models to communicate their design ideas to a client.
Students will learn how to make a simple bag by testing and trialling techniques. This is a vocational unit standard.
There will be a focus on exploring applied design methods such as screen printing, stamp printing, patchwork sewing techniques and machine and hand embroidery. Students will select a technique to enhance a basic garment.
The course provides a pathway to a creative career and is a mix of Unit Standards and level 2 and level 3 Achievement Standards tailored to student needs.
