Level 2 Food Technology
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Miss K. Newman.
Design food products by experimenting with ingredients and cooking methods.
This university-approved course builds on the skills and knowledge learnt in Level 1 Food Technology. Students may take this course without doing Level 1 Food, but they should be able to follow health and safety regulations while having some understanding of the design process.
The first unit offers a unique opportunity to design and develop a dish inspired by personal memory, blending creativity with culinary skills. Students receive valuable stakeholder feedback to assess the success of their innovative recipes, ensuring they are both delicious and commercially viable. In the second unit, students elevate their culinary expertise by creating a high-quality dish from scratch using advanced techniques. This challenge will hone their accuracy, independence, and efficiency, pushing them to new heights in their culinary journey.
This course leads to the university-approved subjects; L3 Food Technology and Food Technology Scholarship. Both offer a strong pathway to a career in the food industry and other design and technology subjects. It will also appeal to students who are interested in food and have an inquiring and creative mind.
Note: Some of the same achievement standards are taught in Textiles, Food, and Mechatronics. Check with your teacher if you would like to choose two subjects as you can only be awarded the credits once.
