Level 1 Mathematics

Course Description

The course will include study on the mathematical strands statistics, number, algebra, measurement, geometry and space all at level 6 of the NZ Curriculum.

The first half of the year will cover all the mathematical strands listed above.   

Students will explore data using a statistical enquiry cycle and then will use mathematical methods to explore problems that relate to life in Aotearoa New Zealand or the Pacific.  

For  the second half of the year students will choose either a statistical focus by interpreting  and applying mathematical and statistical information in context (statistical and financial literacy)  

OR 

Will choose an algebraic focus by demonstrating mathematical reasoning  in the following mathematical strands  - number, algebra, measurement, or geometry and space.

This course is designed for students who have  achieved Numeracy in 2023 or working at Mathematics Level 5 and above in the NZ Mathematical curriculum
