Level 1 Mathematics Numeracy

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs K. Tucker.

This course is for students who did not achieve Numeracy in 2023 or are working at Level 4 or below of NZ Curriculum.

Students will undertake study of the mathematical strands of number, measurement, statistics , geometry and space at level 4 and lower level 5 of the NZ Curriculum  .  Later in the year moving to level 6 of the NZ Curriculum in Statistics and  at least two from the mathematical strands of number, measurement, algebra , geometry and space.

The focus  course will focus on gaining the mathematical understanding at Level 4 and lower Level 5 of the NZ Curriculum to achieve  Numeracy which is a requirement for NCEA Level 1.

To gain Numeracy students should be able to

 - formulate mathematical and/or statistical approaches to solving problems in a range of meaningful situations.

- use mathematics and statistics to meet the numeracy demands of a range of meaningful situations.

- explain the reasonableness of mathematical and statistical responses to situations.

In term 3 Students will explore data using a statistical enquiry cycle and then will use mathematical methods to explore problems that relate to life in Aotearoa New Zealand or the Pacific.
